Short Story and Housekeeping

(found this image via Bing here)

I awoke this morning around 3 and checked my watch only to see that I had a little over an hour and a half before I needed to get up for my run.  Usually I am unable to drift off back to sleep, but this morning I had no problem as I rolled back over and squeezed my pillow and burrowed down under the covers.  What seemed like seconds later was my alarm beeping and it was indeed time for me to get up.  I quickly put my gooey contact lenses into my dry eyes and rubbed them several times.  I then proceeded to stumble into my closet and put on my multiple layers of clothing that I had laid out the night before.  Headed to the car and drove through the empty streets to my friends house so that we could run on some busier streets that are barren at this time of the day.  As soon as I jumped out of the car we both commented on how windy it was and began to cruise down the street.  A little after the first mile while still in a groggy daze, I rolled my ankle.  Immediately, "I'm Awake!  I'm Awake!"  It was the same foot that I broke the week before Macy was born, so I guess it still has not regained it's complete strength.  We continued on as it really did not hurt, just threw me off my rhythm and jolted me to my senses. We laughed about it a little bit, as I cannot stop from cracking a joke about myself when I trip.  I know, I'm strange.   As we turned on to the busiest street of our run we noticed that we were running directly into the wind.  We huffed and puffed and still not completely awake I would hop off and on the curb beside me as a few cars ventured down the road towards us.  As the wind wore on our weary bodies, we contemplated cutting our route short and turning down a residential street so that the homes and trees could break the wind.  Going back and forth trying to decide what to do, I spoke up and said, "I think I need to walk. "  WHAM!  It was like some one had pulled the road out from underneath me I went down.  I kept going, not just to my knees, not just my elbows, but down to my right shoulder.  Thankful I had piled on the layers and gloves that morning, only the palm of my left hand actually had visible injury.  I have a good sized knot on my elbow and my shoulder is quite sore, but nothing hurt more than my ego.  I got up and mumbled something under my breath about my awesome athletic ability and brushed it off and continued down the road.  Once I got home and showered, I crawled back into bed and squeezed up close to Mark and told him I need to invest in a helmet.

Obviously, at the age of 29, I cannot seem to stay upright, you guys remember the icy parking lot.   I have laughed multiple times thinking about how funny I must have looked as I plummeted to the ground.  I'm thankful too that my running buddy hasn't laughed too hard on my behalf, but that's what makes her fun to run with.  We have lots of laughs at our own expense every time we run.  Thanks Tamara for helping the miles seem shorter!

Moving on....

Several of you asked what Yoga videos I'm using, I'm thinking I may be safer doing Yoga than running....
There are actually 3 different videos in the box that I got.  I enjoy these because they are broken into 10 minute workouts, so it is flexible with my schedule.  Definitely recommend for stretching certain pesky hamstrings like I have.  By the way, wish I had those abs.  (As I shove Hot Tamales in my mouth.)

Second thing, I mentioned in a previous post about a soup that I made for dinner one night.  The recipe was requested, so here you go....

Santa Fe Soup

1 lb. Hamburger- Saute
1 Onion- Saute
1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can whole kernel corn
1 can green chilis
One 20 oz. can stewed tomatoes
1 lb. Mexican Velveeta- melted

Directions: do NOT drain cans of food, chop up velveeta into cubes.  Combine all and simmer for 30 minutes.

This is easy to double and worthy of doubling because I can eat on this stuff for a week when it gets cold outside.  It definitely is one that I do not mind having leftovers from, OR, make extra and pass along to a friend!

Finally....I had mentioned that I had received a blogger award from Christephi over at Sprouting Flowers and I have neglected to spread the encouragement on.  I really appreciated it and was actually giddy that someone LIKED my blog.  It really is a whole bunch of ramblings from my head.  Christephi said,
"Scripture teaches that we are to value people, to love them as Christ loved them, and one way of doing that is showing them appreciation for the work that they do."
Amen!  I totally agree, so I'm passing this Kreative Blogger award to:

Now I have well over 100 blogs in my google reader, but these are some that I regularly look forward to for laughs, entertainment, ideas and delicious recipes.  I could definitely pass this forward to more than just five, but I think these girls need some recognition!  Now, hurry up and go read their blogs!  If you received the award, you may copy and paste it to your sidebar!  :)

I am right there with you on the falling flat on my rear. The last snow we had I went out to start my car (luckily without Emory) and slipped on ice. I kept falling...it felt like forever. So when you order your helmet, order a spare for me. :)
