Yoga

found pose pic here
A couple of weeks ago while I was out and about, I decided to pick up some Yoga / Pilates videos to see if they might be a good cross training addition to my running.  Mainly because I have been having terrible lower back pain for several year, that has just gotten worse.  I have gone to the chiropractor and the doctor and I have finally decided it is because one of my hamstrings is overly tight.  I have not been diligent about stretching and so I thought this could be the key to my relief.

Starting as soon as I brought them home I began learning all these poses, downward facing dog, childs pose, warrior something or other.  Ella refers to all of it as the push up videos.  Probably because 95% of the videos are staying in the plank position as seen above.  It has become quite the family affair this last week and made for a lot of big laughs.

Last Sunday afternoon Ella asked if we could do the push up video, so Mark said, "Yes, let's see what's on these videos." Definitely mocking me and how much I had bragged about getting some relief from doing them.  I did say that I had worked up a pretty good sweat from some of the stuff.  First off you need some background on Mark and why he would mock me.....Mark lifts weights.....in a gym.....that's it.  He does "manly" workouts and because his knees are so bad....remember this.....he doesn't really do much cardio other than riding a bike.  So, we pop in the video and warm up.  Not so bad.  Half way through the video Mark leaves the room and returns with his shorts on and t-shirt after previously being in sweats.  I said, "What's the matter babe?"  And in not so many words admitted defeat by the yoga video.  He made a comment about it being a pretty good workout.  All the meanwhile, Hayden kept trying to jump on our backs and begged us to be his horse.  Ella tried as hard as she could to participate with us and Macy just supervised from her jumperoo.  Mark and I were definitely a sight to be seen.   We just kept staring in amazement at the television while these people would practically wrap their legs around their necks and talk the whole time they were doing it.  Let's just say, Mark and I are definitely having to follow the modified version of things.   I just hope no one was peering in our windows.

All laughs aside, I really enjoyed our family workout and hope that both Mark and I are instilling a healthy lifestyle into our kids programming.  I hope they find working out to be as much fun as we do.

That is great! Cracks me up about Mark! I always thought that pilates and yoga was a joke and not a good workout, so I didn't give it a chance. Then I did a 10 min workout one day. I wasn't exactly winded, but I was pretty sore the next day. What are the videos that are the best? I may get some.

Can you send some of the healthy living lifestyle across the street? My kids aren't witnessing any of that over here. Help. :)

I want to see the pictures of you and Mark. :)

Don't worry Kim, Emory's not seeing any of the healthy living either. Maybe their friends can be their inspiration. Haha!

Hey, that's just what I need! We have a treadmill in the garage and Hubby runs 4-5 miles about 5 days a week, but it's hard for me to get out there during the day with the baby and in the evenings I'm busy with supper, cleanup, and bedtime...and then I'm too tired for running! Any recommendation on video titles?
