Steamboat Mountain Half Marathon

Crazy, adventurous weekend here!  All week my running buddy and I had been debating whether or not to run a half marathon over the weekend.  It was going to be a perfect run in the middle of our marathon training.  The wind was suppose to be gusting up to 40mph and that really was not going to be helpful when battling a 17 % graded hill in the middle of the run. We decided to bite the bullet and give it a go.  Steamboat has been named the "Hardest Half in Texas", they were not lying.  The hill was the killer, even the "warm up" hill was super challenging, however I do not think I was prepared for running into 40mph winds coming down the hill.  I did not think it was possible to feel like you were running in place while going down such a steep incline.  I was wrong, you can run in place coming down a mountainside.
Before our race!
After!  With our medals!!
Unfortunately, on our way home a guy was not paying attention to the road and crossed the line at a big curve in the road and we t-boned his truck.  His truck didn't even look like it was in the same wreck as ours.  It could have been so much worse.  I did not have any injuries, but my friend was burned on her arms from the airbag and also bit the inside of her mouth which bled quite a bit.  That was pretty scary.  My seat was pushed so far back on the passenger side that I did not even get grazed by the airbag.  Thankfully, the other guy was okay too and we all walked away from the accident.
Sorry I haven't updated in a while.  We had a busy week and this weekend was even busier!  Things should calm down around here, I'm hoping, for the next several days so I'm hoping to post a bit more!

Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you're okay. The picture of you smiling in front of the destroyed car cracks me up a little. Only girls would do that!
