Memorial Weekend

Fun, Fun, Fun!!! Those are the only words to describe this weekend. Friday we headed out to Austin to meet up with our friends Ben and Leslie. We dropped off our kids with Mark's parents and made our way to a kid free weekend, well, with the exception of Ben and Leslie's most adorable little Eli. He needed his momma, but we definitely didn't mind because he is THE most laid back baby ever!! Never a peep from the little guy. Mark and I made it there around 8pm and ran a few places and ate dinner. Saturday morning we got up and headed to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then out to downtown to do some shopping. We basically worked up an appetite ever hour or so and indulged any place that had food. Very fun! Then for dinner we ate at a fondue restaurant. Once again only the word fun can be used. Dumb me forgot my camera on Saturday, but I made up for it on Sunday when we went out to Lake Austin and rented a boat. The lake was so packed that they didn't have an available rental until 5pm. We had a great time on the boat and attempting to ride on the inner tube and wakeboard. I definitely drank half of the lake my first attempt at wakeboarding. Why the thought to let go of the rope as I was being pulled underwater didn't enter my mind was beyond me. My nasal cavity got a good cleanout though! The funniest thing that happened to me was when I was watching Mark try to wakeboard and was sitting on the back of the boat. Ben gunned the engine to help get the rope back around to Mark and I slide off the back of the boat into the water. I was hysterically laughing before I hit the water. I did a complete cartwheel off the side. I laugh every time I think about it. No, I was not the picture of boat safety. Ha! We had a great time and had some cultural awareness on the side. Note to self, stay away from groups of boats that are tethered together with naked people. Yes, we accidentally stumbled across Hippy Hollow. YUCK!!! Never again! There were some other characters out there and thanks to one young woman we had the priviledge of seeing the work of her plastic surgeon. Sorry, I neglected to take pictures. UGH! Please explain to me why a woman would flash a boat with two women and two men on board. Did she think we needed to see that?? This next picture is definitely the picture of the day. I know Leslie will love me for this one, but here she is enjoying a ride on the inner tube. We laughed so hard looking at the pictures because she looks like gumbie with her leg all crazy in the air. The next picture is of Ben wakeboarding. He was the only one to get to a standing position. The rest of us just got a great abdominal workout and free guzzle of lake water.Hmm. Afterwards we ate and headed home. We didn't pull in until 2am and went straight to bed. We picked the kids up in the morning and then took them to the pool later that afternoon. It was a lot of fun and Ella enjoyed the water slide, but only if her Daddy was there to catch her. I guess she doesn't trust me. The kids had a great time with Mark's parents and they even went to Ella's end of the year gymnastic show. She did front rolls and back rolls and showed off on the balance beam. From the video Gig and Mur took, it looks as though Ella enjoyed the applause. She was awarded a medal at the end.
This morning I had the urge to bake, so Ella and I made some homemade chocolate chip cookies. Ella enjoyed the batter and surprisingly enough like the baked version too! I think I may have a cookie addict. So, that concludes our weekend. It was fun being just a couple and hanging out with great friends. Wish gas wasn't so expensive or that hotels didn't cost anything because I would probably go to the Hill Country every opportunity I could. Stinkin' economy. Thank you though to all the veterans that served our country and those who are protecting us now. We are grateful!

Okay, so I won't remind you AGAIN that I live 45 minutes away from Austin...and I don't mind driving there to see people I miss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are lucky that I'm not too mad since you had a nice weekend away with Mark. I forgive you:)

But, next time you are even close to Austin, we are getting together, promise???

What a fun weekend. I need to bake some cookies with Mallory. I think she'd enjoy it, but I need to plan it when I'm not in a rush!

Ok...Miss Ella is precious! Jake wants to know if she would consider going for a younger guy??? Just a few months...what could that hurt? HA! Anyhow, she is so stinkin' cute! I love the one from gymnastics, and the cookie batter. That a girl, Ella! And what a cute picture of you and Mark! Hope yall are doing great. We'll have to get together soon!

Sounds like a lot of fun! I wish we had a boat...I mean, I wish I had a boat to use a few weekends a year, but didn't have to pay or deal with it the rest of the time. :) If Ella loves the cookie dough, she is a woman after my own heart! ;) And I loved gymnastics as a kid. Of course the hardest thing I did was WALK across the balance beam (6 inches off the ground...ha! ha!).

Wow, so I'm totally craving cookie dough all of a sudden. I don't think I've had it since college, but it suddenly sounds great. Has Ella considered a career in sales?

Glad to hear you enjoyed Austin!! We were in California for Memorial Day weekend, but if your crew ever makes it down to Austin again, please let us know. We'd love to see you, Mark and the kids.
