My Old Man

Yes, Mark is officially in the old men's club. Back on April 4th, Mark had both of his knees scoped. After many years of knee pain we finally decided Mark needed to have them checked out especially since we would be meeting our insurance deductible this year. Anyway, his knees were alot worse off than we anticipated and has now had his knees compared to a 95 year old man's knees. They are covered in arthritis and had alot of "loose bodies" floating around. This was caused by his bones shedding. The knee cap is wearing away and he is basically bone on bone behind the knee. UGH!! The doctor believes the only true cure for Mark will be total knee replacement, but we are hoping to hold off on that for a few more years. So, in the meantime, Mark is recovering well from surgery and has been in physical therapy, which so far hasn't helped that much, but we've been told to be patient. He's been a real trooper through the whole thing and I'm happy to report that he really was a good patient to take care of. We've had some good laughs over the fact that he is already on arthritis medicine and in the next couple of weeks, Mark will go in for weekly injections into his knees to help lubricate the joint. The stuff they are injecting is made from a rooster's comb. I hope that doesn't mean Mark will start crowing when the sun comes up. Ha! I will attach a picture of Mark's knees 2 days after surgery when we got to take the bandages off. Pretty scary. The good news is that they look pretty normal now. Thank goodness!!!
