Sometimes I have these urges to try to create something. I don't know when or why I get these urges, but most of the time, mainly when I'm not pregnant, I am more patient and my end result turns out a lot better. For some reason though, my latest projects haven't been working for me. I got the great idea from
Lu Bird Baby's blog to create cute big sibling shirts for the kids. She instantly inspired me and I was off to work yesterday gathering my Heat 'n' Bond, t-shirts, etc. I printed out the cute fonts, cut them out, traced them onto my fabric, ironed them onto my bonding material, then cut them out again and then did the final iron on to my shirts. She had given the idea that you could use Fray Check so that you didn't have fraying material after you washed. So, dumb me decided that I would do that. WELL, I took my fray check to the fabric and realized that when I cut out my fabric that I didn't completely cut off some areas that still had some pen ink from my tracing and the glue made the ink run out onto my t-shirts. Not cool. I wish I had not even attempted the fray check. So, then I tried to wash the shirts, the ink stayed the letters did not. I ended up reattaching the lettering and then tracing my letters with black fabric paint to hide the blue ink that ended up on the shirts. Long story short, Meredith is done with projects for several months. That was just too frustrating of a project. I'm fine with the final product, but don't look too close. Not that my kids are going to wear these every day, maybe just once for a picture, but I at least want them to look presentable in them.

Jalapeno (just for Mark!)

Miniature Roma Tomatoes
The next project I've been working on all summer is reaping rewards. I am happy to say that not only have I kept my flowers on my front porch alive until July!!!!!, but I have also successfully grown basil, rosemary, tomatoes and jalapenos!!!!!! I have to admit I also tried growing lavender, but I think it has bit the dust. Oh well, 4 out of 5 isn't bad! I thought this would be a fun project for the kids, but it has become my project only. They're not too interested anymore. I am happy to announce that I was able to taste one of my grape size Roma tomatoes this evening and it was great. Well, I guess it tasted as good as what I would have bought from the store and no the whole plant will never produce enough at the same time for me to actually use them in a salad, but hey, I actually grew something that wasn't covered in bugs and tasted decent!!! Yay! Point of the story as it has been fun to go out there every day to see something sprout. The basil really is a cost saver and I have really used it a lot. My mom has encouraged me to make some pesto sauce with my abundance of basil, so I would like to try that soon! I'll let you know if it turns out.

I laughed out loud as I read about your shirt-making adventure. Ha! You never cease to crack me up! I love the creative side of you! Wish I had more of it. Anyhow, I miss you. When I get back, we have to get together again! It's been too long!
I think the shirts turned out adorable!! I'm just saying this from experience...next time, try tight zig zag stitching around the letters to applique them on. You don't have to use any fray check and the bonded material will stay put. I just made M&M cupcake shirts and went through a similar ordeal! It's so frustrating to have the concept in your head, but not be able to produce it the same way!!
I can't believe you will have a third baby to fill that onesie so soon!! I hope you are feeling good. Your fourth of July looked like a lot of fun!
And, I'm way impressed with the green thumb. Impressed that you grew it and USED it!! You are super mom!
The shirts turned out cute! Don't give up on your projects. I don't think you could if you tried though. You just love em!!
I think they look great, but it's probably ok to put projects on hold for a while. I think you're going to be busy with other things! ;)
